So, you might not know this but there is this amazing woman called Jay here in Hobart, she got cancer, defeated it with her super powers (and some medical amazingness) and then she started an amazing charity called Homely Retreats.

Jay and her amazing team of volunteers now help families to take a break from the stress of cancer treatment to rest, reconnect and celebrate life. They organise free holiday accommodation and experiences to help families take a break from cancer and create some priceless memories.

The team at Zanzo LOVE Jay’s story and what she has created in Homely Retreats so we wanted to help somehow… this is where you come in!

How does it work?

• Step 1: Your planning appointment:

  For those who haven’t had a Zanzo visit before, this is a casual 15-20 minute chat with Dean, (the business owner here at Zanzo) which is all about finding out more about you and anyone else you would like to include in your shoot. This ensures we can create the best portraits possible for you! We’ll talk time, location, clothing and you'll have the chance to ask as many questions as you like too.😊 At this point, when you realise just how cool your photoshoot will be, we’ll ask you to pay the $100 session fee/donation to Homely Retreats and we’ll lock in a day, time and place for the best photoshoot ever!

• Step 2: Your Photoshoot:

  This is the fun part! Dean will often spend a few minutes having a chat and play with the little ones to make sure they feel at ease: his background sure comes in handy here! Then we’ll have a look around to find some great locations' for make some awesome pictures. We just hang out for an hour basically and make the time and space for you to just be yourselves :) This way, you’ll end up with a whole bunch of relaxed, casual and candid images to choose from.

• Step 3: Your Cinematic Image Premiere (fancy words for “slideshow”)

  Back at the studio in our cinema room, you’ll be blown away at the awesomeness of the results from your shoot… hopefully! 🤗 Yeah, you will… and then you get to choose which ones you’ll like to buy as wall art for home and smaller prints and maybe even an album to show them all off! Digital solutions available too… we can run you through all the options/prices etc at your Step 1 before you commit. 😊

FAQ: 

What is this Zanzo all about?  Well we love family. We love kids. We love dogs and we hate cancer. We’re all about capturing the love and relationship within families, the personalities that make them great and really just creating some dedicated family time to celebrate the life we all share. We do this through making awesome portraits that our clients love to display as artwork in their homes.

What is in it for me? Your $100 participation fee is a direct donation to help raise much needed funds for Homely Retreats. You’ll have a series of priceless portraits made by one of Tasmania’s premier portrait artists AND you’ll also have the opportunity to purchase photographs from your photography session and get some amazing wall art for your home. Additional costs are very likely - if you love the images we make for you, you’ll probably want to buy them! Doing so isn’t compulsory though. We can chat more about this at your obligation-free planning appointment which is the first step to getting involved.

When can we have the shoot? REALLY importantly, we’ll schedule your shoot for the most predictably happy time of day for your family members i.e not crashing into nap time 😜. Location shoots are ideally first thing or last thing so depending on the time of year, this could mean 8:00am or 5pm … But we are super flexible there :) If you would like our school holiday session times best get in quick - they book out super fast! First step is your planning appointment where we get to meet you and find out a bit more about the personalities in your family. You’ll also get a chance to have a look through the studio and ask any questions you might have. This means on the day of the shoot you’ll all be super relaxed.🙂

Who is the photographer? Dean Mansbridge is the owner here at Zanzo and will most likely be your photographer. He's long been known as a 'child whisperer' for his innate ability to make BFFs with pretty much every child that comes to visit the studio. He's pretty handy with pups too. Oh and rumour has it, there might be a new guy working here soon that can shoot on Saturdays…. 🤫.

Can I have all the family photographed?  Absolutely! We will be happy to photograph the whole family at no extra cost. We recommend you take full advantage of the photography session. More people or more pets = more fun for all of us! We’ll always make an effort to make the most of this opportunity for you so we’ll create plenty of images to choose from!

Can I purchase photographs? Yes, of course we will give you the opportunity to purchase photographs. Personalised, photographic wall art of your family would make an AWESOME addition to your home. At your planning appointment (before the actual photography session) we'll discuss all of our products and pricing with you to figure out what might suit you best. What if it rains? No biggy. I’m sure you look great in a pair of wellies! 🤣 Weather can be tricky to deal with, light drizzle isn’t a bad thing most of the time… we’ll try our luck but if it turns real bad we’ll just find another time. 🙂
