100 Days old - Baby photoshoots for Chinese families right here in Hobart

In Chinese tradition, it is believed that when a baby reaches 100 days old, they have overcome their most vulnerable period of life and have a higher chance of survival. To celebrate this milestone, families often have a special photoshoot to capture the precious moments of their little one. One of the best places in Tasmania to have this 100 day old baby photoshoot is at Zanzo Portraits in Hobart.

Cancer sucks. The people who it chooses though, are bloody amazing.

Working in the photography industry, you get to meet all sorts of people; and you get to photograph them for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes it’s to document the start of a new family or the addition of fur-baby, sometimes it’s to celebrate moving into a new home or Grandad turning 90.

The catalyst for this shoot was both beautiful and crap. You see, Nathan has cancer.

Nathan is a Dad.

Nathan is a Husband.

Nathan is a boat making, fisherman, and all-round great Aussie bloke who didn’t really love the idea of getting front of the camera for this photoshoot but because Nathan is also a bloody legend, he did it anyway.

Why did he suck it up and go out of his comfort-zone?

Because Nathan is a Dad,

and Nathan is a Husband,

and Nathan knows that Nicole and Caleb will always, always have these pictures to help remember how awesome he is.

We chose the family home in Sandford as the perfect place to start our shoot one calm and cloudy morning just a week or so ago. Home makes for a great location as it’s such a personal place and such an important part of your story. The memories we all create in our safe places are ones that we’ll hold onto forever.

Where would you imagine having your next family shoot?

After successfully avoiding the resident snake (true story 🤪) we wandered down the road to Mortimer Bay and went for a stroll along the shelly shore. Such a serene spot on such a beautiful morning. The air was warm with just the sounds of birds and the odd four legged friend who decided to photobomb on his morning walk… (can you spot him?)

Such awesome people who couldn’t be more deserving of celebrating their lives together through a photoshoot like this. 😍 They were also the recipients of a night away at Coles Bay that was organised by our dear friends at Homely Retreats.

Have you heard of this amazing Tassie charity before? They help families to take a break from the stress of cancer treatment to rest and reconnect by organising little holidays and activities for families affected by cancer. They’re friggin amazing and this year we’re doing our bit to help them keep doing theres.

Find out how you can help Homely Retreats by booking your own family in for a photoshoot experience at your favourite place.

Life is short - Love is eternal - Now is all we truly have.

xx

Jimmy - Nearly 90 and still a cheeky little school boy...

Family portraits don’t always take place in our Hobart studio; from time to time I’ll venture out to a clients home in southern Tasmania for a relaxed documentary style family portrait shoot to document a bit about the special place that is home to the special people.

We launched a pretty massive giveaway for Mother’s Day earlier in the year and the major prize of a $3590 portrait package (photoshoot and artwork) went to the lovely, lively and lucky Lyn.

Lyn decided to have me come out and photograph her family including her beloved father-in-law Jimmy. A week or so ago I did just that, and here are some of the results.

This is Jimmy…

Jimmy was asleep when I arrived. Right there in his special inside chair, with the fire cranking, surrounded by the memories of his beloved family.

Jimmy was asleep when I arrived. Right there in his special inside chair, with the fire cranking, surrounded by the memories of his beloved family.

Now, there’s a few thing you need to know about Jimmy…

  • He loves a visit to the casino. In fact, most regulars there will know him by his first name. They’ll be able to tell you all about his antics but if you want to know about his winnings then… well… you’ll have to ask him yourself.

Here’s Jimmy in the middle of his castle. Note the Lotto tickets on the wall behind him. Classic Jimmy.

  • Jimmy lives on a beautiful property down in Geeveston - this is the same house he was born in… like actually born in. I asked him if he had cleaned up afterwards… he liked that.

Jimmy having a laugh at his own stories or my silly questions… I can’t remember which!

  • Jimmy loves a cuppa. His favourite outdoor chair needed reinforcing after his hip surgery to make sure it continued to stay the test of time. This is his favourite morning spot but he was happy to entertain me and have an afternoon cuppa there this time round. He chose the mug - nice styling choice Jimmy.

  • Jimmy’s partial to going for long walks on his property but “HE DOESN’T GET LOST” - it’s just that the cops have had to come find him a couple of times. Now he packs a fancy mobile phone that can ping his location. Very handy!

Don’t follow Jimmy up this track. You might not make it back ;)

  • Jimmy’s pretty proud of his wood shed. Why wouldn’t he be? You’re probably jealous…

  • Jimmy loves a story and he has a million. From growing up through war times, tickling fish (you can go google that), UFO’s… there’s not much he doesn’t have a story about!

  • He’s glad he doesn’t have to look after the apple orchid anymore. Jimmy (and the rest of the family) spent countless hours working hard on the family orchid and a while ago made the call to get rid of it. He’s still pretty happy with that decision.

  • Jimmy is partial to tinkering in his shed.

  • Last fun fact is that Jimmy loves his family.

Here’s Lyn and her hubby (Jimmy’s son) Stephen with their two beautiful offspring Kaycee and Adam. This shot is going straight to the poolroom as a big piece of wall art 😍

It was such an honour to spend some time with such a special character at this stage in his life journey. People always remember to document family milestones through professional photography in the early days of their families story (which I love!) but it’s not so common for me to be asked to create images like these.

I sure hope I get to meet more ‘Jimmy’s’ so that more families have memories like these to treasure forever so, I’m going to make an effort to free up some time so I can document a few more legends in the places that have helped shape their stories.

Is there a Jimmy in your life that should be honoured through some professional portraits like these?

If you have a special person, who still lives in their special place and you think it might be worth having me come visit to make some portraits with their whole family like these, get in touch below and we’ll make a plan. 🤗

As well as the favourite family image being destined to live as a large piece for the wall at home and a handful of smaller prints to scatter around the place, Lyn decided to have us design a beautiful display album showcasing all of her favourite images from Jimmy’s shoot which is going to look amazing! Can’t wait to see how that turns out! (I’ll post it here later) As mentioned before, Lucky Lyn won all this by entering our most recent Mother’s Day competition on facebook. Gotta be in it to win it folks!!

Thanks for sending through some behind the scenes pics Lyn - and thanks Adam and Kaycee for being such awesome assistants!

Welcome to Zanzo's Stories

We get the privilege to hear so many fascinating stories through the work that we do here at Zanzo. There is something about this experience that makes people feel comfortable to open up and share a part of who they are which makes for a very warm and sometimes very entertaining workplace! I suppose this is why we always get told our clients look so natural and ‘actually’ happy in the photographs we make for them…

Anyway...

For those among us that love to look at pretty pictures AND hear a bit of a story, we’re going to start sharing a few tales here on this page - it’s greedy to keep them all to ourselves anyway 🤣

First up, we’ll share a it about Jimmy. He’s a pretty special way to kick this off!…

PET THERAPY IN THE STUDIO

WHO DOESN'T LOVE A BABY BUNNY?

One of our regular Zanzo families recently visited us with their rabbit, Ava, and her 5 little bunnies, for some pet portraits just in time for Easter.

Jamie stepped away from the Mac to film the shoot for training but ended up spending most of it with a bunny in her lap. Who can blame her? Check out how adorable these little fluffballs are!

Happy Easter and stay safe every bunny.

Lauren and Sam kids Boutique open in the Hobart CBD

So FINALLY the Hobart CBD has an awesome clothing boutique for the smallest of the Hobart cool kids.

Lauren and Sam hobart

Angela and the team from Lauren and Sam have made the big move from their Kingston based shopfront to a much larger space at 50 Murray St Hobart - just around the corner from our studio!

It looks awesome and will have an epic play room at the back for those little shoppers that get a bit bored.

The space is big and beautiful, full of amazingly beautiful clothing for little ones and HEAPS of cool options for those shopping for a gift.

Soooooooo good to have them here in the CBD.

You can find them online as well at www.laurenandsam.com.au but you really should just pop in and check it out for yourself.

Wishing you all the best Angela and co. You are going to do awesome! :)

Zanzo Families Flashback

These guys are a Zanzo family from way back!

Victoria has been gracing our Hobart portrait studio since before she was born and her big sister, Gabrielle, has been there every step of the way too.

Along with their parents, Renee and Jared, they are a family we just love to welcome back again and again and always get a kick out of seeing them grow closer together with every visit.

The family first visited Zanzo Portraits back in 2012 when she was gloriously pregnant with their second child. Gabrielle was very proud to tell us how she was going to become a big sister.  It's such an exciting time for children and a massive milestone in their lives.

It wasn't long before they were back with Victoria for their next shoot as a newly formed family of four.

Recently, the Hill family came back with their dogs Jasmine and Caesar to be a part of our Pooch Project, a photographic calendar to raise money for Brightside Farm Sanctuary.

Jasmine the Energiser Bunny of the dog world. A super-charged ball of bounce and perfectly offset by her best friend, the laidback and noble Caesar. Both found their Forever Family with the Hills after being adopted from local dog homes.

Thank you all so much for letting us capture the spirit and love of your family over the years. It's been one to remember and we can't wait to hang out with you again.

Zanzo love to document the evolution of families and turn them into artwork for them to enjoy for years to come. If you'd like your own Zanzo Family Portrait Experience, get in touch with us by phoning the studio on 6223 1155 today.

Then & Now

You can't beat a good before and after image! Everyone loves to look back at what they were wearing, how they did their hair and wonder when on earth the kids got so big?

We had Felicity and her extended family visit us at the beginning of the year and they were just as much fun (if not more) than they were the first time we meet back in 2014! Scarlett had not long been a big sister back then but now her little bro Levi is already 2. It really is incredible how fast little people grow up.

Fortunately for the Griggs family, they have amazing artwork proudly displayed in their homes of the journey that they have embarked on together. Something that they can look at every day to remind them of those precious days.

We are truly proud to be the family photographer for Felicity's family and can't wait until their next visit. Maybe Scarlett and Levi will have some cousins to play with in the near future...

If you would like Zanzo Portraits to be your personal family photographer, contact us today on 6223 1155.

Doug & Frankie

A few months ago, we were visited by Lou and her fur children, Doug and Frankie for a Zanzo Pawtrait Experience. It was a super secret surprise for Lou's partner, Adrian, who was going to be celebrating his 40th birthday. As such, we haven't been able to share with you the awesomeness that they brought to the studio. Until now...

Introducing: Doug the Rottweiler...

Doug

... and Frankie the German Shepherd Malamute Cross

Frankie

Doug is a gentle giant.

Frankie loves a good tummy rub.

They both love chew toys, catching balls and talking about walks on the beach. They are also extraordinarily patient when it comes to eating treats placed on their paws.

Thanks for visiting us guys. We had such a fun (and loud!) shoot. Also, a massive congratulations to Lou and Adrian on their recent engagement and our most sincere wishes for the ultimate in marital bliss!

Merry Christmas from Zanzo Portraits

That's a wrap from Zanzo! Thank you for allowing us to to capture and share your family moments. It's an honour to be your family photographer and we love coming to work every day thanks to the joy you bring to us.

Have yourselves a spectacular Christmas and New Years. Stay safe, be kind to one another and cherish the time with your nearest and dearest. We certainly will.

Making Memories - How to find the perfect gift

December has suddenly arrived and the time has come to dig out the Christmas decorations, create the perfect Christmas playlist and get your jolly on!

Of course, along with all the jingle bells and mistletoe, there is the gift-giving. What should be a true joy of the season, can weigh down even the most merry of souls as they struggle to find the ‘perfect’ gift.

This year, rather than buying toys and gadgets that are quickly left to gather dust, we want to help people make memories by giving family and friends opportunities to spend time together and create something totally unique.

The best way that we know how to do this is with a Zanzo Portrait Experience!

For every day leading up to Christmas, Zanzo will be revealing a brand new limited-time offer. For 24 hours only, you can purchase a truly special gift from $50 for a loved one to have their own Zanzo Portrait Experience.

Every day the special Zanzo gift offer will change so keep an eye on our website or follow us on Facebook to see what we’re up to next!

To spread even more cheer and truly give back to our community, know that every dollar that you spend when purchasing these special offers, Zanzo will forward directly to the ABC Giving Tree.

OUR FIRST GREAT ZANZO FAMILY

HAPPY MONDAY! Our weekend was ACE! We even pried open our doors on Saturday for an extra special shoot for the first of our GREAT ZANZO FAMILIES: Megan, James and one year old Alex. We played with caterpillars and rhinos, puzzled over Who Sank The Boat, smashed a cake and went for a dip.

We love spending our days making people smile and if you do too, get in touch!

FRESH FACES IN THE SPOTLIGHT AND WE DON'T MEAN POLITICS!

Springtime marks a new start for many so we’re taking it as an opportunity to freshen things up.

We sought the expert advice of Social Media Consultant, Jen Murnaghan at Digital Dandy to give us some tips on forward planning and making the most of our online presence. Last week, the Zanzo Team took a day off from our usual organised chaos of kids and pets bouncing around the studio to sit down and have an inward look at how we can do things better.

zanzo team

One of the hot tips we received from Digital Dandy was to make more regular blog posts. We admit, it is definitely something that we always mean to do but don’t set aside time to get it done. Well,  all of that is about to change! We have so many stories to share with you about the gorgeous families we meet plus offer some hot tips of our own on how you can capture family moments at home, whether it be on a whizzbang digital camera or your mobile while out and about.

Another thing on our to-do list is to get some fantastic behind-the-scenes shots of how we do what we do. To kickstart this initiative, we have began The Great Zanzo Family Search. We’re looking for some chilled out, fun families of all shapes and sizes that wold love the chance to have professional portraits created for them. If that sounds like you and you are cool with the idea of your images being used for print and digital marketing, follow the link below. Be quick though, The Search ends Wednesday 16 September at 10pm.

Family Portrait Month 2015

This week we celebrate the International Day of Families for 2015.

In many ways, we feel this day should be celebrated more than any other day of the year. It's a day we show our appreciation for the wonderful, crazy, and beautifully unique personalities of our parents, siblings, children, pets, neighbours and friends, and the incredible bond we share with them throughout our lives.

Our families, who come in all shapes and sizes, are the people who bring colour and joy to our lives.

Some families live for adventure!

For others, it's about those cherished quiet moments.

Some families span four generations...

... others are just starting out. When 2 becomes 3.

At Zanzo, we believe all families are different and should be celebrated for their uniqueness. Yet, for each of these families, without exception, we all know that "lives can change in a heartbeat".

That is why, for the whole month of May, we are joining forces with other leading photographers around Australia to participate in National Family Portrait Month to help raise $20,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and raise awareness for early detection of Breast Cancer.

Throughout the month of May, by clicking the link below, you can reserve your Zanzo Portrait Experience for only $65 (valued at $100). Zanzo will be donating all participation fees being back to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, helping to raise $20,000 for their incredible cause.

Zanzo is heading down to The Hobart Baby Expo this weekend at Blundstone Arena, and we are looking forward to meeting Hobart's new Mums-to-Be, Mums, bubs and their families.

We thought it was the perfect opportunity to reflect on the cutest, squishiest, wriggliest, (smelliest), and giggliest members of our Zanzo families: our beautiful Zanzo Bubs.

The Wombmates Project - Launch Party at brooke st pier Hobart

On Sunday the 8th March, after 12 months of photographing twins and triplets from all over Tasmania, we opened the Wombmates Project Exhibition at the Brooke St Pier in style with 180 people (twins, triplets and their friends and families.) There was also bubbles and cheese. Mmmmm. The Exhibition kicked off the start of Multiple Birth Awareness Week 2015.

There are 50 Pieces on display. 101 multiples (and a few dads) feature in the exhibition. Way more than we had anticipated! We had so much fun catching up with all the families and were so proud to present Anita Manners (representing TAS Multiple Birth Association) with an awesome jumbo cheque representing the $4048 we raised for them. How cool is that?!

After that, she officially opened the exhibition with the ceremonial cutting of a ribbon. (Thanks William and Thomas for your help)

Huge thanks to our sponsors too, Epson and Art Poster Image Tech who have printed and stretched all of the artwork for the exhibition. It's such a great thing to be supported by amazing businesses like these guys.

We hope you can head on down the the Brooke St Pier between now and the 15th of March to check out The Wombmates Project Exhibition and while you are there you can vote for your favourite piece. It's open to the general public from 9am-6pm every day.

HUGE thanks to all those who participated in this project! Thanks to The Brooke St Pier for hosting their first exhibition and to Morilla and Grandview Cheese for supplying us with such tasty treats.

We'll definitely be shooting Wombmates MK2 in the near future so stay tuned for details or better yet, register your interest now here

As Dean said in his speech, "creating this project was twice as much fun as we thought it would be" ;) !!

Dean Mansbridge is a father or two young kids and a qualified early childhood teacher. His fun and emotive style of photography has won him plenty of awards (like the TAS Family Photographer of the year for the last 4 years) and his portraits adorn the walls of hundreds of Tasmanian family homes.

If you have been considering having portrait artwork created of your children or family, don’t hesitate to give him a call today on 6223 1155.
