Here’s a bunch of awesome stories that some of the abcDog participants shared. Enjoy!

COMING SOON…

Indy - 2 yo Viszlador

When Indy was a puppy I walked into the kitchen and found her on top of the bench with a waffle between her teeth. When she saw me she gently placed the waffle back down and tiptoed backwards along the bench and jumped down like nothing had happened!

Zane - 10 yo Kelpie x Hound

Zane loves to be a part of everything we do, and on this occasion I had him on the front of the kayak as I paddled around exploring a part of Bruny Island. Everything was going great and Zane had settled in on the front, watching the world go by, but then Zane decided a change of plans was in order when he spied a wallaby on the shoreline. Now, Zane loves a good "bouncy animal friend" whether that be a bunny or wallaby. His eyes lit up with excitement and in a split second he had dived right off the kayak! His harness kept him tethered, so as he doggy paddled madly he pulled me on the kayak behind him at a speed faster than I could have swam to shore!

Freddie - 8.5 yo American bulldog x quarter staffy x quarter border collie.

So he doesn't mind paddling in water but has never really done any swimming. One day we went to the Cam River which has a brick retaining wall and at high tide the water is almost level with the wall. We went down to meet some friends for a BBQ one day and my friend was on a paddle board in the river with her dog on the paddle board. Freddie, with his love for other dogs, thought the water was land and just stepped out in the river in an attempt to run over and say hello to the pup. He dropped like a stone into the water and his eyes went huge as if he couldn't understand why the other pup could walk on water and he couldn't. He swam in a little circle and I had to drag him up on the the wall and he's been scared of swimming ever since.

That and the random times he's run into people's houses or businesses on a walk. One day a lady waved at him from her front door step so he ran up to her to say hello. He ran straight past her though, and straight in the front door and up the stairs to the first floor which were right behind her. Cue her going in o find him and me standing awkwardly at the front door calling his name. He ran down the stairs but instead of coming to me he hung a left and ran into the lounge room where the lady's elderly mother was sitting in an armchair watching the world go by and said hello to her. He sniffed the cat and then I managed to grab him and get him out of there, walking him home terribly embarrassed.

Vader - 2 yo Miniature Dachshund

She truly rules the household.

She loves walking, running on the beach but not in the water! She’s got a very old soul. Just like a mother.

She has a unique colour, full black sausage dog. 🐕

She’ll will always round up bigger dogs, no dogs too big for vaders “big dog syndrome

Zeus - 7 yo Mini Dachshund

He is a little bugger, when he plays with his ball he will usually take it up onto the couch with him but will play with it right on the edge so it always falls off and we have to pick it up and throw it back to him. We think he does this on purpose, especially when it goes under the couch.

He is just the sweetest little mummys boy. Very anxious but will love you if you give him time.

Flash - 9 yo Greyhound

Recently in a work meeting he farted so toxically we had to open all the doors and windows before we could continue. I thought all was well. Then he farted again. I had to leave the room with him and dial in from the office next door.

I love him more than I have ever loved any other creature. Watching him grow old is a privilege.

Vlad Hungarian Viszla x Labrador

Despite Vlad hating the cold and wet, one winter he lost his marbles and started digging a muddy hole for 10 minutes. He got absolutely coated from head to toe in thick mud... then he suddenly snapped out of it and didn't quite know what to make of the situation. We went to wipe him down but also didn't quite know what to make of the situation - hose? Towel? Bath? Where to start!? He stood there immensely awkwardly as we wiped him down for ages, feeling very bewildered at how cold & muddy he was while we couldn't contain our laughter.

Ernie - 1 yo Swiss Shepherd

Eating Mum’s sourdough starter. He opportunistically stole the starter when we went out to the shop, when we came back we discovered it was missing and realised he had eaten it all. This ended up in an emergency trip to the vet where we had to pay for Ernie to vomit it back up as it is toxic to dogs!

Nora -2 yo Australian Kelpie

When Nora was younger, I was walking her on a lead down my driveway to close the gate in the evening, and it was dark and cold. Half way down there, she suddenly yanked really hard on the lead and it slipped through my hand....she had seen a wallaby and was off like a shot! I ran after her for a minute, then realised I needed a torch, so I went back inside to find my torch and grab some treats. 5 minutes later (while I was fossicking around), I looked towards the front door and saw Nora's little face peeking around the door, looking very sorry for herself. She was slinking back inside and she had a cut on her cheek (from what I don't know.) She received a lot of treats and tummy rubs for coming back by herself. I was so relieved to see her back home!!

Nala - 3 yo Goldie

We love her naughty, crazy but beautiful personality, every birthday get together we have with the family and everyone starts singing Happy Birthday, she starts singing along with us (howling the tune) but everyone losses where we are up too so everyone starts laughing especially the HIP HIP.

Kona - 9 yo Boarder Collie

How he got his name Fuzzy Bear. He was quite a headstrong puppy that got into trouble a lot. He got the idea that when he heard his name 'Kona' it meant he was in trouble so he stopped coming to his name. He wasn't food motivated so I needed a different way to call him. He looked like a fuzzy little teddy bear so Fuzzy Bear it was. He always knows that he's a good boy when he hears that name and it's stuck.

He's my best friend and it's my job to make his short life the best it can be and the happiest it can be.

Josie - 6 mo Jack Russell Terrier

Josie loves stealing our socks out of the laundry basket, and we'll often find one or two socks on the back doorstep which is her favourite place to lay outside in the sun.

Hurley - 5 yo Kelpie

My boy loves his nephews that when my sister pushes the pram that's when nothing else matters he won't pull try to say hello to other dogs he just sticks by the parm. I can't even walk off or if my sister stops the park and we are ahead he will crouch down just so they can catch up or he will run in circles rounding the parm up.

Hale - 1 yo Husky x Samoyed x Malamute

Once upon a time, one unlucky and unsuspecting person at our local dog park was wearing shorts and Hale wee’d on their bare leg. This person vented their annoyance at Hale and we watched from afar as Hale just trotted off like he didn’t know why the person was so upset. He still attempts to do this and we have to yell out to warn people; “watch your leg!”.

Valerie - 4 yo German Shorthaird Pointer x English Pointer x Good Girl.

Just before her first birthday, we were at the dog park. Someone had dumped some rubbish in the park. Before I realised it was there she found it, and Valerie proudly came up to me with a used sanitary item in her mouth. I think she was quite upset that I wasn't as excited about her treasure as I was!

Valerie has to stay on lead when we visit the beach. The first time I thought, we got this recall thing, she ran about 2km up the beach to go make friends with everyone she could see. She also does not like waves. If she sees someone out in the water she thinks they must be in danger and tries to "rescue" them!

Vinny - 5 yo German Shepherd x Bull Mastiff

Vinny had a very itchy toe from an insect bite that resulted in a vet trip and a bandage on his foot. On arrival at home, he snuck off at dinner time which is unusual because he loves to use his cute begging face which is reinforced by getting some human dinner leftovers.

The itch was not resolved by the vet visit and during the time be snuck off whilst his humans ate dinner, he ripped off the bandage and ate into his toe down to the bone! After an emergency vet visit and some painful nights, his toe needed to be removed. One way to solve an itchy toe!

Lord Leyland - 8 mo British Bulldog

Thinking he could chase a ball down the hill his little legs couldn't keep up and he somersaulted about 4 times then looked up and pretended nothing happened *had to be there but total laugh out loud moment.

He came into our lives at a time when we all needed him and has slipped in just perfect.

Oscar - 15 yo Scruffy Bitza

We came home from work one day and could smell that Oscar must have had an accident. We couldn't find any sign of anything anywhere, we finally checked the bathroom and found that poor Oscar must have had an upset belly and had done his business in the bathtub, which he had never ever done before! So considerate of him to make it easy for us to clean up!

Oscar has a special love for all of his soft toys, he always likes to greet us at the door with one of them, and if he can't find one, he'll find the closest thing which might be socks or even trousers if he can find a laundry basket close by!

We love how unique Oscar looks, he sometimes looks like many different animals, he's been called a lion, a cow, a donkey, a wizard and he even looks like an otter when he's swimming.

Winnie - Golden retriever x spaniel

When she was just a puppy she was playing with the kids and they started chasing her she dived into the sock basket to hide.

Twitch - 3 yo American Staffy

When we first got twitch she used to fit in the cup holder in my mums car in the back and now til this day she thinks she can still fit in it.

Twitchy loves talking to us and telling us what she needs.

Whenever she comes to Amy’s house she runs up the stairs just because she can’t wait to see her.

She is always so loveable but so protective of her family.

As twitchy has grown into the beautiful dog that she is, she has developed so many beautiful personalities and it is honestly like she is our child. She listens and loves us as we are.

We’ve had the privilege to photograph hundreds of beautiful POOCHES over the years! Some are energetic, some are timid at first, some are curious, some a super cuddly and some are just downright CRAZY but the one thing we always hear is how much our clients love the results!

“Absolutely loved the whole experience with Dean and the Zanzo team. The photo shoot was heaps of fun and the photos were all amazing, not to mention cuddling with little Minti the Zanzo sausage dog while we picked which prints to take home.
We asked Dean for something a little different for our lounge and also for a couple of specific themed pics for work, and he nailed them all. We definitely have plans to have another session with the Zanzo guys in the future. Thanks again.

“Absolutely loved our newborn shoot with our dog Louis the mini labradoodle and the photos taken by Dean. It was an easy process and he was able to move things along quickly so we didn't miss out. It was great to be able to include our dog, and Dean was able to calmly navigate the challenges of babies and dogs to create some beautiful pictures. We were delighted to return 6 months later and have Louis and baby Audrey have a new shoot for the CHAOS Project.”

Can you imagine your fur baby starring in our book AND on the walls at home??

How AMAZING would that be!? 🤯🤗

FAQ:

What is this “abcDog” project all about?  We love dogs. They are sooooo much fun to photograph both on their own and in the context of their families. Due do popular demand and a sell out project last time, we thought ‘why not do something similar but even more awesome?"‘ Making a book full of Tassies most loved doggos is gonna be a whole lot of fun!

We are all about photographing people and their pets in a way that represents who they are without the confines or 'perfect posing'. This often means shoots can get a little bit hectic - never more so than when dogs are involved. This isn't a daunting prospect for us though - it’s actually super fun! We are donating all the participation fees with the aim to raise $3,000 for the Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania.

What is in it for me? Your $50 participation fee is a direct donation to help raise much needed funds for Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania.. You will also have at least 1 image of your fur baby feature in the book, you’ll have a series of priceless portraits made by one of Tasmania’s premier portrait artists, AND you’ll also have the opportunity to purchase photographs from your photography session and get some amazing wall art for your home. Additional costs likely - if you love the images we make for you, you’ll probably want to buy them! Doing so isn’t compulsory though. We can chat more about this at your obligation-free planning appointment which is the first step to getting involved. 🙌🏼

When can we have the shoot? During normal studio operating hours: Monday - Friday, 9:30-5:00 or so. We also have a couple of after hours sessions each week to try and make it easier for everyone to get along. We may offer some super limited Saturdays spots too 🤞🏼. If you would like our school holiday sessions times best get in quick - they book out super fast! The first step is your planning appointment where we get to meet you and find out a bit more about the personalities in your family. You also get a chance to have a look through the studio and ask any questions you might have. This means on the day of the shoot you’ll all be super relaxed.🙂

Who is the photographer? Dean Mansbridge is the owner here at Zanzo and will be your photographer. He's long been known as a 'child whisperer' for his innate ability to make BFFs with pretty much every child that comes to visit the studio. He's pretty handy with pups too. His previous pet focused project - POOCH! won an International Gold award and the best Not-for-Profit calendar at the World Calendar Awards. It also raised over $4000 for Brightside Farm Sanctuary. He’s a little bit proud of that! He’s also made 2 editions on the POOCH PACK Playing cards raising over $7000 for other local charities.

Can I have all the family photographed?  Absolutely! We will be happy to photograph the whole family at no extra cost, we recommend you take full advantage of the photography session. More pets or more people = More fun for everyone!

Can I purchase photographs? Yes, of course we will give you the opportunity to purchase photographs. Chances are we’ll make heaps of great images at your shoot to try and get a single great image for the book… Personalised, photographic wall art of your fur baby would make an AWESOME addition to your home. At your planning appointment (before the actual photography session) we'll discuss all of our products and pricing with you to figure out what might suit you best. There is more info about this on our general FAQ page. As a rough guide, our happiest clients tend to spend between $1500-3k and purchase a mixture of beautiful wall art, small prints, designer albums and digital versions to share with friends and family. We have super flexible payment options to make sure it’s super easy to get exactly what you want our of your experience. 🤗

Will my photograph definitely be in the book? Yes! All those who pay their participation fee, are photographed (obviously), and return for their slideshow presentation/ordering appointment will be in the book but it is limited obviously to how many we can get in there without it feeling too crowded. First in, best dressed!

Do I get to choose the photograph to be included? Our Design Team gets the final say in which image goes into the book, but they’ll choose from YOUR list of favourites which you will create at your ordering appointment. This just ensures that the design of the book is balanced.

How much will the actual book cost? Gotta be honest… that’s a bit unknown - last time we did a project like this managed to get the cost down in $80 per book but this is based on volume. Like most things, they become cheaper the more you buy. Probably somewhere between $80-$150.

Note - if you are under the age of 18 you must find an adult to apply for you and they must be present at all of your appointments.

Ok now if you think this is your jam, fill in the application already!!
